Its been a while...

I haven't blogged for aaaaaages! 2013 wow where did those years go.  I have posted the odd thing on Fat Fergus Designs Facebook page so I haven't been totally dormant in the social side of things.

One thing I do know for sure is that I haven't nearly been doing enough art so I am taking on Willowing Arts Ltd (Tamara Laporte) Life Book 2016.  Hopefully I will learn lots of new techniques and get that confidence to get pencil to paper which often eludes me.

I will update my blog with a few photos of my art that I have not put up here.  Most recently I have done the picture below as a Christmas Present for my boss.

I also drew a couple of sharks a few weeks ago which I intend to use in a collage of sort but have yet to get to that.  I have been transferring some drawings and half finished collages to one visual diary - where I will come hell or hell water finish them!!

Tomorrow the Life Book begins and I can't wait to get some inspiration and enthusiasm from some very crazy talented people. :)

Keeping busy with digital illustrations

It has been a busy couple of months for work (which is never a bad thing). Both artwork and resume writing is occupying a lot of my time. Have just done 11 digital greyscale illustrations for a client involving lots of concrete pipes. I mostly used Illustrator but finished them off in Photoshop. I do enjoy big projects, I always learn something new so it's been good. Client was very happy with the outcome too which is great. :)

Business Card Design for Pukka Roast

As well as getting all ramped up to illustrate another book for author Diane Membrey,  I have been doing a couple of other jobs. Resume's for the ol' sea dogs roll in fairly regularly but last week I also had a job for some people on the Peninsula where we live who are starting up their coffee bean roasting business.  They gave me a sample of one of their blends and it is really good tasting coffee. Always happy with coffee but I am pretty sure I will be getting my coffee beans from them in future. They gave a sketch that they had been working on that they wanted to incorporate in their cards.

From there I redraw the coffee connoisseur in Illustrator and then went to Photoshop to finish him off. Lastly I went to InDesign and slapped up a few roughs of the actual business cards. I wanted to keep the face as much as possible like their design. The final design has been decided and with a few more tweaks should be pretty close to being sent off to the printers. So this is the design:
I need to design a label or a DL flyer for them next. That should be fairly quick with the business card pretty much done and colours etc. all sorted out. :)

Red haired lady digital illustration

Way back I started painting this in photoshop but lost inspiration to complete it when we were in the midst of renovating our house in Australia. I thought I would spend a bit of time this week trying to finish her so I could use the image as an entry into an illustration competition in Auckland this weekend, the Chromacron Illustration and Comic Arts Festival.  She is all done and entry is submitted into the competition!!! Suppose its a good way to get a little bit of exposure, who knows what might happen if I am really lucky :) .... never know until you get out there :)

Equator Crossing Certificate

2013 Equator Crossing Certificate
A certificate that I did for my other half, Steve, when he had a few pollywogs onboard and went across the equator. Sounded a bit of a messy affair... the things sailors get up to so they can pass the time!! It is good that some old traditions are kept. This should be fairly good resolution but if you want a copy for an initiation email me kkfifield@gmail.com :)

Mermaid Journal - Mermaid #3...

Today has been a very rainy day with a fair bit of thunder rolling around the skies. Just me and my kids in the house, all my lovely guests have gone home. Perfect day for doing some artwork.
Dive into Your Dreams
I used the face of the mermaid and the diver I drew last week as a base for the picture. I didn't use nearly as much collage in this one as I used in the previous two mermaids in the book. I used acrylic paint mostly and then did a light spray of glitz spray which you cannot really pick up in this (it is very subtle in real life too).

I still have eight more mermaids to make to complete this project... yikes... do I have the imagination to come up with eight more mermaids?

Logo for Cranio Balance

Have been working on a logo for a friend over the last couple of weeks and just finished it yesterday. She wanted something with a brain and a heart and a woman (representing herself) and showing balance. I immediately visualised the old fashioned scales and went from there to incorporate the elements she wanted. Jennie is a registered Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist practicing in Wanaka, Queenstown and Alexandra, New Zealand. Her website is http://www.consciousness-rising.com.
